Dr. Jiri Kotek received his PhD degree in Material Science from the Czech Technical University in Prague in 1998. His PhD thesis was devoted to structural aspects of polymer toughness. Then he spent one year at the Institute National des Sciences Appliquees de Lyon as a post-doctoral fellow. During his PhD study he started a cooperation with the Institute of Macromolecular Chemistry, Czech Academy of Sciences in Prague, and since 2011 he is heading the Otto Wichterle Centre of Polymer Materials and Technologies, an innovation centre of the Institute. In addition, since 2016 he holds an appointment as Director of the Institute of Macromolecular Chemistry. His research interests include the interrelations between structure and mechanical behaviour of polymeric materials and composites, fracture mechanics, polymer processing and recycling.
In February 2019 he was elected as the President of the European Polymer Federation for a period 2020 – 2021.
