Armes, Prof. Steven P.
Prof. Armes is a synthetic polymer/colloid chemist. He studied for his BSc (1983) and PhD (1987) degrees at the University of Bristol. He then worked as a post-doctoral fellow for two years at Los Alamos National Laboratory before taking up a lectureship at Sussex University in 1989. He was promoted to Professor in 2000 and moved to Sheffield University in 2004. His current research interests are focused on polymerisation-induced self-assembly (PISA), which is a powerful platform technology for the synthesis of a wide range of block copolymer nano-objects. He has published more than 600 papers (H-index 107) and is a named inventor on 25 patents. He has received five Royal Society of Chemistry medals, one Royal Society medal, the 2016 DSM Materials Science Award and the 2017 ECIS-Solvay Prize.
